How to {follow} a blog...

This little post won't be a long one, but hopefully an informative one for my readers who are unsure of what it means to 'follow' a blog.

Following can be done in many ways, the first, which is what most people refer to when they ask "Are you a follower" is done through Google Friend Connect:


You use this little goodie to follow a blog using your email address, and if you have a blog already, when the other blogs you follow post new content, you get a notification on your blogger dashboard. Just click the image to follow CityGirlSearching this way, or click here to do the same. The little number tells me how many people have followed my blog through this way.

Another way to follow is through twitter, facebook or pinterest. Most blogs have got little buttons at the top of their blog which look something like this:


If you are on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest, then you can connect with peoples blogs using your own personal profile. This is great for staying up to date with blogs while on the move. When i take photo's of peoples products etc, I make sure that I try whenever possible to tag those stall holders in my post, using their blog link or Facebook pages.
 It's a nice way to share a bit of love.

Also you can follow a blog their rss feed (the little dot with the waves coming of it) or by subscribing to the blog and getting a email sent to you whenever the blog is updated:


All in all, the choice is yours just how you follow a blog, pick one (or two/three/four!) ways to follow to keep in touch and make sure you never miss out on new content :)

Mission Find Snow {accomplished!}

 This afternoon (after hearing about snow all day on Twitter and Facebook!) Farmboy and I headed out into the cold in search of some white powder for ourselves.

But alas, in our cold corner of KZN it seemed like everyone had the same idea...


Never-the-less, there was plenty of snow to go around...







Time spent in the cold is never complete without hot chocolate! And watery hot choc made with lots of love but not much flavour by yours truly...priceless

A Grade 2 Life Skills Lesson on Soil

It has been quite an adjustment being at my current school here in Pietermaritzburg for my final teaching practical this year.

 Most of my learners (the new term for students) really struggle with the basics of reading and writing, which can be frustrating at times, especially when they are all at such different levels. 

But instead of getting all 'woe is me' and hating on the education system, I decided to take a little more of a hands on approach for one of my life skills lessons. With the new curriculum which has been implemented this year (CAPS > which I really think is fantastic!) each grade is given particular themes to integrate among all the learning area's (for the Foundation Phase of Grade 1 - Grade 3, these learning area's are once again to be referred to as Maths, English & Life Skills).

Much chaos ensued, punctuated with mud flying, smiling faces and much learning taking place :)

Stay tuned...next week we will find out which type of soil was indeed best for growing plants...exciting times ahead for these little rascals!

2 Months to the {Wedding}

In just under 2 months time, I will be walking down the aisle. My my, the time has just flown past! Farmboy proposed (click here for the full post on how he popped the question!) on the 11th March this year, and 6 months felt like a perfect time to get everything done. But with only a few weekends left to get everything done, I am definitely starting to feel the pressure.

So, I thought I'd write a quick little list (l just love writing lists! And when they are written on cute stationary like this, I could write them forever!) of things that we have got done so far, and then of course there's what still needs to be done...


Now that all that is ticked off, I feel so much better! That is, until I turn over and see the To Do list glaring back at me...things like rings, favours and flowers oh my!

My School for the next 7 weeks...

I am currently doing my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through the University of Kwazulu Natal here in Pietermaritzburg. It's only a year course, and along with lectures every day, we have to complete over 11 weeks of practical training in schools. I did my first 5 week practical at a very good ex-model C (thats the new flashy name for Government School) in April, and am currently doing my final 7 week practical at a school in town. It's been a completely different experience for me, one that I have been very excited to sink my teeth into. 

It has been eye opening to say the least (not to mention a little scary at times, especially being greeted by 'No Gun' signs every morning as I walk through the school gates, but I have to and say I am loving it so far!

Choosing Flowers for your Wedding...

The task of choosing the who, what, when and where for the flowers for our wedding in September has been one that I have been putting off for a while. But, it is one of the most important things to decide on, as the flowers add to the whole mood of the wedding. Luckily for me, I have a lovely local lady who is helping me to make those decisions, and who is going to be actually doing the flowers as well as my bouquet on the day!



She suggested starting with a trip to the local flower shop and to grab a bucket. Start by picking up every flower that catches your eye, and see what works for you. Don't forget to find out what flowers will be available on the day/during that season and make sure to plan ahead when arranging delivery of the flowers. If the weather looks like it's going to cool the week before the wedding, then you can collect your flowers up to a week before the day to make sure they stay fresh. If it looks like it's going to be a scorcher, best make sure there's a cold room in the area to keep those blooms looking good for your big day.

A little while ago, a friend of mine was aksing me what shampoo I used (as she said my hair looked, "healthy & bouncy"). I listed the usual suspects, and she then went on to ask me if I had ever looked at the ingredients list of a shampoo bottle. When I got home, i went straight to the bathroom to have a look. Now, I had read somewhere online that shampoo has many of the same ingredients found in regular household cleaners, and I was schocked to see it for myself! Well, all those nasty things don't seem to be doing my hair too much damage, but you just never know, and the same friend recommended that  I try African Organics, a locally produced hair care range available at Dischem.
